“Character Puzzle”
In this activity, students create a game to describe 5 of the novel’s characters.
Games are prevalent throughout the novel. Create your own game in which players must identify 5 characters from the novel. Present the game to your peers to solve. Include an answer key with a description of each character and an explanation of how your game relates to the novel. Consider using one of the following puzzle types to create your game:
For your solution or answer key, compose a short character description based on plot details that helps explain your choices for each puzzle.
Teaching Suggestion: Students can be creative with their puzzles while keeping their content appropriate for school. Students may wish to use a variety of puzzles, each one representing a different character’s attributes. You may want to emphasize that students will need to create a short character description for their peers to read after completing each puzzle.
Differentiation Suggestion: For students who might benefit from focusing on the components of plot and character instead of puzzle creation, consider allowing them to create a crossword puzzle.
