Book series: Savvy by Ingrid Law

Savvy is the first of three books in the Savvy series. It’s followed by Scumble, which takes place nine years later and contains a new main character, Mibs’s cousin Ledger, who must learn to control his ability to break things. Scumble is followed by Switch, a story that happens shortly after Ledger’s adventure; it chronicles Mibs’s sister Gypsy’s adventures with her own savvy, the ability to stop time.

Book: Keeper of the Lost Cities (2012) by Shannon Messenger

The first in a series of several novels, the book traces the adventures of a brilliant 12-year-old girl who discovers that she has multiple psychic powers and belongs to a species separate from humans. She must adjust to life in a realm hidden from humanity, where she makes new friends, struggles with her nascent abilities, and fends off threats to her life from a dangerous conspiracy. The popular book series is slated for a film adaptation.
