Chapter 22 Summary: “Regan”

Regan’s mom calls her every few days, which Regan appreciates because she misses her mom more than she expected to. During their free time before bed, she reads, which surprises Tess. Tess shares that it’s easy to sneak out of the dorms and get snacks from the cafeteria at night because there are never any security guards roaming, and most professors go to bed early except Callaway. He also sneaks nighttime snacks and doesn’t care if the students do it.

The next morning, Elliot takes Regan on a practice simulation of Pearl Harbor and drills her on the facts that are unfolding before her eyes. Using this method instead of reading, it’s much easier for Regan to remember details such as what time the first plane was spotted. Professor Callaway approves of this method, which Elliot thought up, and he permits Elliot and Regan to do study simulations in the mornings or evenings so it doesn’t interfere with their scheduled activities. Elliot now believes that he and Regan might be able to succeed as partners.

Chapter 23 Summary: “Elliot”

Regan and Elliot do study simulations every night for two weeks. One night, an alarm wakes everyone up. Professor Callaway informs the students that the main Academy has been attacked and they’ve lost communication with them, so they’re on lockdown.
